All About Zoos
Zoo's and wildlife parks are intended to be about education and species survival
In the last 30 years there has been a shift toward educating people about conservation within zoos. Public learning about conservation of wildlife and habitats is vital if the extinction of wildlife is to be avoided. Zoos offer opportunities to educate visitors about habitat conservation through schemes and activities such as breeding and rehabilitation programs to the way we address scientific, aesthetic, and ecological values to be effective.
Zoos and wildlife parks are by their nature always likely to cause contraversy
Visiting a zoo helps all of us, especially those unfortuante not be able to travel further afield to get up close and personal and to understand the importance of taking care of the environment as it has a significant impact on the lives and welfare of wildlife . Zoos should teach us all about the importance of conservation, animal care and species longevity.
In the end, these efforts and other attempts at conservation may well prove futile in a world challenged by climate change, habitat loss and swelling numbers of humans, but for now they are an ambassador to the worlds 'Flora and Fauna' and shouldn't be dismissed of hand.

To quote Sir David Attenborough as he told The Observer in an article. "Only the sight of a creature in the flesh can give us a true understanding of its nature, he says. “There is no way you can appreciate the quiddity of an elephant except by seeing one at close quarters,”. “People ought to be able to see what an animal looks like. And smells like. And sounds like. I think that is quite important. Actually, very important.”
European Zoos
Education at EAZA zoos and aquariums is not just about sharing knowledge of the natural world: it's about involving people in conservation and helping them form connections that will benefit not only animals and their habitats, but also help people to learn more about themselves.
Encouraging Environmental Awareness. Visiting a zoo helps children understand the importance of taking care of the environment, its inhabitants (not just us humans) and the significant impact on the lives and welfare of all of us.
And it's also a great way to relax and do something for our own general well-being
